In order to be accepted into an Entry Level position with the City of Euless Fire Department, applicants must meet specific criteria set forth by the Fire Department. This is a basic overview of minimum standards asked of any applicant for the position of Firefighter.

Minimum Standards

Age

Must be at least 19 years of age by the time of entrance examination.

Education
  • High school diploma or
  • G.E.D.
  • Must be able to speak, read, and write the English language.
Certifications
  • Certified Firefighter/Paramedic or
  • Certified Firefighter enrolled in Paramedic School within 3 mos. of graduation or,
  • Certified or licensed paramedic or,
  • Enrolled in Paramedic School within 3 mos. of graduation.
Driving History
  • Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License and be able to obtain a Texas Class "B" license.
  • No more than three moving violations in the last three years (36 months).
  • No license suspensions in the last three years (36 months).
  • Must not be on probation for D.W.I. or other traffic offenses 5 years (60 months) preceding the date of application.
  • Must not be wanted on outstanding traffic warrants.
Criminal History
  • Must have no prior convictions of any felony.
  • Must have no misdemeanor of grade "A" and/or "B" within the last five (5) years including deferred adjudication.
  • Must have no class "C" misdemeanors for family assault.
  • Must not have been convicted of, received deferred adjudication for, or probation for a misdemeanor involving moral turpitude such as bribery, official oppression or arson.
  • Must not have any formal criminal charges pending.
Use of Illicit Substances
  • Must not have used marijuana for the purpose of recreation or intoxication anytime during the twenty four (24) months preceding the date of application.
  • Must not have sold or distributed marijuana anytime during the five years (60 months) preceding the date of application.
  • Must not have used paint, glue or other inhalants for the purpose of intoxication.
  • Must not have used any hallucinogenic drugs, including, but not limited to LSD, STP, or Psilocybin.
  • Must not have illegally used any other substances or drugs listed in the Texas Controlled Substances Act, including, but not limited to: Amphetamines, Methamphetamines, Cocaine, Opium, Barbiturates, Heroin, Morphine, Ecstasy, and Eve.
Credit History

Have a credit history which demonstrates a commitment to paying debts. Factors which will be considered include:

  • The type and number of debts.
  • Reasons for any bad debts.
  • Extenuating circumstances
  • Potential for the credit related problems impacting the applicant's judgment and integrity.

Medical Physical

Vision
  • Visual acuity at least 20/30 binocular corrected with contact lenses or glasses.
  • Uncorrected shall be at least 20/100 binocular.
  • Peripheral vision/Visual field performance without correction shall be 140 degrees in the horizontal meridian of each eye.
Hearing
  • Average hearing loss in the unaided ear cannot be greater than 40 decibels (dB) at 500 Hz, 1000 Hz, and 2000 Hz when the audiometric device is calibrated to ANSI Z24.5.
  • Must not have any ear condition (or hearing impairment) that results in a person not being able to safely perform essential job tasks.
  • Other medical/physical requirements as outlined in the current edition of NFPA 1582 standard on Comprehensive Occupational Medical Program for Fire Departments.
